Becoming a yoga teacher is one of the noblest works one can do, but it can seem overwhelming to choose from the myriad of options available around the globe. It’s essential to get your Yoga Teacher certification from a Yoga Alliance-registered school where you can learn from experienced teachers, explore the depths of ancient knowledge, and comprehensively understand yoga’s applications in today’s world. As you embark on this journey, there are some things to remember for a smooth and fruitful experience.
Prerequisites
Before you begin your yoga instructor journey, there are some things to keep in mind.
- Researching schools: You must research the best Yoga Teacher Training schools that fit your needs and offer quality teaching before committing to a program. Check whether they are registered with Yoga Alliance if their teachers are skilled, and if the curriculum covers all aspects of yoga. Bali Yoga Ashram is one of the top Yoga Alliance registered Yoga Teacher Training schools in Bali with a commitment to excellence, where giving the best experience to our students is the priority.
- What styles: Many yoga styles have been popularised in modern times. Although all forms have originated from traditional Hatha Yoga, practitioners often desire to learn specific yoga forms that suit their lifestyles and requirements. As a teacher, it is essential to remember your students and what you can deliver to them. You should also choose a style/s based on your interest so you can teach with enthusiasm and passion. If you’re new to yoga or unsure what style suits you, exploring a multi-style Yoga Teacher Training course can be helpful.
- Budgeting: Perhaps the most important thing to consider is the finances. Travelling to a foreign location to pursue your yoga instructor certification is not a small decision. It requires a great deal of planning and budgeting. It is worthwhile to spend your hard-earned money on this adventure so long as you are guaranteed a magical experience. Creating memories with a soulful community of fellow yogis and yoginis, basking in the beauty of local landscapes, learning yoga on and beyond the mat, and acquiring additional skills like Ayurveda and sound healing- these things you can expect from the course curriculum.

Our typical Yoga Instructor certification curriculum includes the following.
Ashtanga Yoga: Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, designed by K. Pattabhi Jois, is a complete yoga involving a sequence of asanas practised with the ujjayi breath and bandhas. At Bali Yoga Ashram, we focus on this style’s primary and intermediate series, progressing in a disciplined, safe manner. This practice builds physical health and resilience, purifies the subtle bodies, calms the mind, and lets the spirit shine.
Vinyasa Flow: Dance with the rhythms of creative vinyasa flows and unlock the possibilities of body and mind. Theme-based vinyasa sequences allow the opening of targeted body parts such as the hips, spine, arms, etc. This beautiful yoga style bridges art and yoga, soul and body.
Pranayama: Tap into the power of mindful breathwork and learn to channel energies in specific pathways to enhance vitality. Using the age-old science of prana, purify the nadis, activate the chakras and experience profound spiritual liberation with consistent practice.
Shatkarma: Shatkarmas are cleansing kriyas to remove waste and toxins from the body. We guide kapalbhati, jal neti, sutra neti, eye cleansing, and vaman kriya. Students practice these regularly to build the habit of cleansing the body from within daily. Learning to practice shatkarma safely under the guidance of a stilling mind and ceasing all thoughts can often seem challenging, especially for beginners. Although meditation comes quite late in the eight-limbs practice, we gently point you toward pure bliss in our yoga TTC. Through techniques of concentration, like trataka, nada yoga, chakra meditation, etc., you will be guided into the depths of your rich inner world. You will soon begin to observe the world with curiosity and without judgment.
Anatomy and Physiology: The human body is this planet’s most complex and intriguing creation. Our bodies and minds are very sophisticated and function in unique ways. Understanding what consists of this body—muscles, bones, tissues—will help you realise the impact yoga has on different parts in association with each other. This awareness will help you prevent injuries and guide your students with personal care so they progress faster on their journey.
Alignment: Practicing asana without an alignment is like saying each posture’s proper alignment and intention will help you reap its benefits. Knowing why you are doing an asana is as essential as being able to do it. Alignment helps one be mindful of the practice and customise it personally instead of focusing only on the aesthetics of how an asana looks.
Philosophy: Yoga philosophy is a broad subject with no end in its pursuit. In our yoga teacher training program, we build a strong foundation of yogic texts like Yoga Sutras, traditional Hatha Yoga texts, and different types of yoga. Classes can explore existential questions such as who we are, what the purpose of life is, etc. Philosophy classes are interactive, aiming to expand your mental abilities, shift your perspective, and, most importantly, encourage compassion.
We also provide complimentary experiences like Ayurveda, where you learn the science of doshas, prakriti and vikriti, learn therapy and add mindful nutrition to your yoga practice. We also offer sound healing sessions and certification courses, where you will learn to use specific frequencies for physical and emotional healing.
An auspicious opening and closing ceremony for each course, beautiful nature excursions to relax and explore, comfortable accommodation with all facilities to give you a homely experience, and a unique traditional Balinese cooking class are all a part of our school’s tradition.
Enrolling in a Yoga Teacher Training like embarking on an adventure filled with learning, laughter, and love. By the end of it, you will have changed profoundly, beginning a new life as an aware, compassionate soul, guiding others into light and authenticity.
